I think, therefore I am. Really? – Spirit Bear Coaching

I think, therefore I am. Really?

“I think, therefore I am” Rene Descartes (1596-1650)

thinking1 I think, therefore I am. Really? Rene was French and a very intellectual philosopher of his time. However, how can we with our little intellect say what we are in the whole of creation? Nor can we rely on our thoughts as we can’t trust what we see with our mind’s eye as our thoughts generalise, distort, delete and our thoughts can change. Which brings us back to the old question ‘Who are you really?’

If you take the Hebrew Bible, God’s reply to Mosses when he asked for His name was: I am that I am (Exodus 3:14) see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Am_that_I_Am This shows that that not even God called himself God. He uses the word ‘That’ as there is no word to use to describe that you are ‘everything’ as we are a spark of the Devine. This leads to the question can we therefore say that ‘I am God’? Well, you could but many people in history have said that and got burnt at the stake for saying so but more importantly putting it that way leads to separateness and not Oneness as they see themselves above all others.

Though, ‘I am that I am’ has been pretty much universally accepted. But perhaps another way of putting it as a means of our ‘work in progress’ to getting to that level of consciousness would be to say:

I Am One With The One.

Or, you could use any word that describes the word ‘everything’ like who I am is Grace (A gift from God). So when you’re asked who are you? The answer is not your name or what you do but who you really are, i.e. your essence your Higher Qualities. And our job becomes to develop our higher qualites as our shadow self is still at large!

If you don’t know what your shadow self is, it’s really the opposite of your good side (higher quality). The part of us that’s horrible if you can dare to look at it and embrace it, as your shadow self is a part of you. By seeing it for what it is you begin to release it, therefore letting go of guilt or playing the victim.

“When you no longer believe everything you think, you become aware and realise that the thinker is not who you are.” ~ Echart Tolle

’til we meet again,

Walk in Beauty.
